What do you do when you know at the end of something lies something even greater?
You get there.
On day 8 we have had to opportunity to race towards something better, a treat in other words. We found out the night before that we would have the opportunity to stay at these beautiful villas in Phong Nha. During the meeting I looked up reviews and pictures and oh my lord.
What is this place?
We get to stay here???
Can I live here?
With these images in my mind at the start of the ride on day 8 I took off. Luckily another rider James matched my insatiable need to get to the big bed and ride like a madman with me. As we climbed a mountain and stopped to take pictures of the beautiful scenery (some you might have seen in a King Kong film); we knew what waited at the end.
We arrived at Victory Road Villas in Phong Nha around 11:45am and was promptly greeted by the manager in charge Emmanuel "Manu" who took us to a table set up for the team and immediately provided a free welcome drink. It was a beautiful day and we chilled an cooled down, drinks in hand and waited for the others.
Below are James attempts at being happy in a picture.
Everyone arrived and we ate and were content. After being shown our rooms people went their separate ways: some to the caves on a tour the Villas set up, some to the amazing pool, and others, like myself, stayed in the beautiful rooms and just rested. Overall I have never stayed in such a beautiful hotel in Vietnam. The views and service were amazing, and the rooms were beautiful and comfortable for everyone.
The restaurant at the Villas is amazing and has gluten free and vegan food options (to say that Patrick and I were relieved would be an understatement). The food was quick, delicious, and well priced. Also a benefit, it photographed well even in bad lighting. Once again if you are ever in the area to maybe visit the caves or explore the town stop by the Victory Road Villas restaurant. According to the team their salmon is the best in the country.
After a restful night filled with real beds/pillows/blankets and netflix. We wake with regret of having to leave this place and cycle further to Dong Hoi. But we must, we like so many others have another something to go to.
For my end note I would like to thank our sponsor Victory Road Villas. Their support during the ride is something I don't think I can put into words. This was a wonderful mini vacation while on our ride and something no one expected. They went above and beyond in caring for us and helping us stay relaxed and happy. If you are ever in the Phong Nha area I highly recommend Victory Road Villas not only for their hospitality and beautiful rooms, but also for their caring nature to support such an amazing cause.
