Day 11 Dong Ha to Hue

The day started with a quick Banh Mi at 7:00, today's was particularly good I think.

Day 11 was a quick 74 kilometers to Hue, where we will stay for REST DAY #2! After yesterday’s long day, and in preparation for what looms in our future, I think this rest day comes just in time. Several sore knees and other body parts are crying out for attention, and one rider in particular said this to me, “Oh, my butt” which I think sums it up nicely.

The ride today was quite uneventful, except for a detour at 30 km to a beautiful old traditional Vietnamese village called  Phước Tích. Lots of old buildings.

Then on the way to Hue we stopped for coconuts, and instead of just giving us the water the coconut lady scooped out the coconut flesh for us too and added that to the mix. Served on ice, it was roadside heaven.

We arrived in Hue just after 12, and our DHL drivers had managed to find us a less expensive hotel in a decent location, kudos to them!

The next 36 hours will be spent replenishing our snack supplies, doing extra laundry, and most importantly: resting up for the mountains that wait for us in the distance...

Today’s blog post is dedicated to Centralia College-- our only education institution supporter. Centralia is a two-year college located in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S.A., providing the same excellent learning environment as a University, but at a fraction of the cost. They currently have a representative working in Vietnam! If you, or someone you know, wants to study in the U.S.A., check out their Facebook page and leave them a message… they’re waiting to hear from you.
